Rejected Schengen Visas Cost Pakistanis The Most in 2023

In 2023, Schengen countries denied 1.6 million visa applications, generating €130 million in fees.

Some countries, like Türkiye, saw more visa rejections due to the high number of applications, while other nations experienced higher rejection rates relative to their application volume.

Comoros is among the countries with a higher number of visa rejections compared to approvals. Many of the nationalities facing higher rejection rates are African and Asian.

The nationalities with the highest financial losses due to rejected visa applications are:

  1. Turks – €13.5 million
  2. Algerians – €13.3 million
  3. Indians – €12.1 million
  4. Moroccans – €10.9 million
  5. Chinese – €4.8 million

On the other hand, in 2023, the top five nationalities with the highest visa rejection rates were:

  1. Comoroians – 57.7%
  2. Pakistanis – 48.2%
  3. Bissau-Guineans – 47.9%
  4. Ghanaians – 46.7%
  5. Malians – 46.4%

Regarding the financial impact of rejected visas in 2023:

  • Comoroians spent €173,920 for 2,174 rejected visas.
  • Pakistanis incurred the highest cost, totaling €3.3 million.
  • Bissau-Guineans spent €210,720.
  • Ghanaians faced an expenditure of €1.6 million.
  • Malians wasted €770,960.
