Usman Shahzad, an electronic engineer at the Pakistan Meteorological Department, filed the FIR with New Town police. He stated that the PMD’s automatic water level gauging system was crucial for providing real-time updates on Leh Nullah water levels, which helped officials mitigate potential flood damage.

The theft is believed to have been near Katarian Bridge after midnight on July 18, with the last automatic SMS received at 12:47 a.m.
