A Pakistani restaurant in Scarborough has been temporarily shut down after city health inspectors identified several health and safety violations.
Patna Kabab House, situated at 1885 Lawrence Ave. E., was issued a closure notice by Toronto Public Health on Monday due to six identified infractions.
According to Toronto Public Health’s DineSafe website,
One or more critical infractions were identified under the Food Premises Regulation, presenting an immediate health hazard that cannot be corrected during an inspection.
Patna Kabab House, known for its Bihari kebabs, biryani, and curry dishes, faced two critical infractions, two significant violations, and two minor issues.
One of the critical infractions cited was “Food premise maintained in a manner adversely affecting sanitary operation,” leading inspectors to issue a summons and a health hazard order, with further action pending on Wednesday.
The other key issue was a failure to safeguard food from contamination or adulteration. The restaurant also faced two significant problems: inadequate cleaning of facility surfaces and a lack of measures to prevent pest infestations. These issues collectively led to the restaurant’s shutdown.
The inspection also revealed two minor issues: the food-handling room was not kept sanitary, and equipment surfaces were not properly sanitized. However, these minor infractions were not directly responsible for the restaurant’s closure, according to Toronto Public Health.
They added that Patna Kabab House will be re-inspected once it has addressed the health hazards that led to its closure.
