Australia’s key players are expected to sit out the T20I series against Pakistan later this year to prepare for the crucial five-match Test series against India, commencing on November 22.
The Test series preparation will see these multi-format stars participate in up to four Sheffield Shield matches, with the Shield season which is Australia’s premium domestic competition starting on October 8.
Scheduling the clash poses a challenge as the limited-overs series against Pakistan overlaps with the early Shield matches.
The ODI series kicks off on November 4 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, followed by games in Adelaide on November 8 and Perth on November 10. The subsequent T20I series runs from November 14 to 18, featuring matches in Brisbane, Sydney, and Hobart.
With the T20I series so close to the start of the India Test series, it’s anticipated that Australia will select players not involved in the Test squad for the T20Is.
This approach aims to ensure the Test players are well-rested and fully prepared for the demanding series against India who are ranked second right now in the longest format of the game just behind the Test Championship winners.
