The newly appointed head coach of Pakistan’s red-ball cricket team, Jason Gillespie, has arrived in Islamabad from Australia to gear up for the Shaheens’ forthcoming matches against Bangladesh A.
As per media reports, Jason Gillespie may meet with former captain Waqar Younis, who recently took on the role of adviser for cricket affairs to the PCB chief. Their discussion will focus on the squad and preparations for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
In addition to his head coach duties, Gillespie will oversee the preparations for the Pakistan Shaheens’ matches against Bangladesh A, including attending their training camp.
Gillespie previously coached the Pakistan Shaheens’ red-ball team in Darwin, Australia where a two-four-day match series against Bangladesh A ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Bangladesh A team is slated to arrive in Islamabad on August 7. The squad for the Pakistan Shaheens is expected to be announced within the next day or two.
Gillespie will be pivotal in the selection discussions for the national team ahead of the Bangladesh series. The Pakistan Test squad’s training camp is set to begin on August 11, under Gillespie’s supervision.
Bangladesh is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on August 17, with the first Test match between the two sides starting on August 21 in Rawalpindi and the second Test beginning in Karachi on August 30.
Shan Masood is expected to lead Pakistan as captain while Jason Gillespie will take charge at the helm for the first time as red-ball coach in the Bangladesh series.
