The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that it will reach out to all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan regarding his participation in the upcoming Test series against Pakistan. Shakib is currently playing in the Global T20 League in Canada, with his No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the BCB set to expire on August 12.
“Shakib Al Hasan’s NOC is valid until August 12. On August 13, he is supposed to return to the country and report to us. He still has two to three matches remaining in the Global T20 League, and we will communicate with him to understand his plans,” Shahriar Nafees stated.
Shakib, who was previously a Member of Parliament for the Awami League, is now solely focused on his cricketing career following recent political developments in Bangladesh. The Awami League was removed from power during recent protests, and Shakib’s role as an MP has been officially terminated.
“Shakib is a cricketer now. As per the president’s order, Shakib is no longer an MP. He is only a cricketer now. Every human being has security concerns,” Shahriar Nafees clarified, addressing any potential security issues associated with Shakib’s return to the national team.
The BCB’s selection panel has not yet announced the squad for the Test series against Pakistan. Shahriar Nafees emphasized that Shakib’s inclusion in the team would depend on the selectors’ decision. “Since he has an NOC until the 12th, after that he is supposed to join us. The selection panel has not announced the team for Pakistan yet. When they announce the team, if he is picked, there are separate measures, and if he is not, then his NOC is not useful,” he explained.
The Bangladesh team is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad in the early hours of August 17. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proposed flying the Bangladesh Test team to Rawalpindi immediately amid the current civil unrest in their country to ensure the smooth commencement of the two-Test series.
