In preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, set to run from August 30 to September 3 in Karachi, will be played without spectators in attendance.
This decision comes amidst ongoing construction work at the National Bank Arena in Karachi. This venue has seen less number of spectators over the years because of the infrastructure of the stadium.
The PCB acknowledged the significant role of cricket fans, recognizing their impact on the game and players. However, prioritizing health and safety has led to the choice to hold the match behind closed doors.
“We understand how crucial our fans are in creating an inspiring atmosphere, but ensuring their safety is paramount. After evaluating all options, we believe this is the safest approach,” a PCB spokesperson stated.
As a result, ticket sales for the match have been halted immediately. Those who have already purchased tickets will receive an automatic refund, credited to the account used for the initial purchase.
PCB expressed regret over any inconvenience this decision may cause but emphasized that the current renovations are intended to improve the overall experience of the spectators.
The upgrades are part of the board’s broader commitment to enhancing the infrastructure of the stadium ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is the first ICC event to be hosted in Pakistan since 1996.
