Former legend Wasim Akram has emphasized the need for improved facilities for fans ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.
In a recent statement, Wasim Akram underscored the significance of hosting the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, noting the efforts of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in upgrading the stadiums. He stated,
Having the Champions Trophy in Pakistan is a big deal. Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is upgrading the stadium for it. I believe fans should be treated well and given good facilities. Security is important, but we shouldn’t make it hard for fans to come and enjoy the matches.
Earlier this year, during an appearance on A Sports, Akram responded to a fan’s question about the lack of investment in stadiums in the northern areas. He candidly remarked, “We can’t even maintain three stadiums, how could we make a new one? Have you seen the roof of the Gaddafi Stadium that they were showing with the drone? We can’t even control the three we have. We can only dream of making a new one. We have enough area to make a new stadium, though. Abbottabad is a very beautiful ground.”
In response to these concerns, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken decisive action by approving the design and upgradation plans for three major stadiums: Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Karachi’s National Stadium, and Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium. The PCB has also allocated Rs12.80 billion for the comprehensive renovation of the three venues.
