The most popular football league in the world starts today. While there is only one match on show for the day, this will mark the start of the 126th season of the English Premier League. Manchester United will start their campaign at home vs Fulham. Intriguingly, this will be the 10th time in 11 seasons that The Red Devils will begin their league campaign at Old Trafford.
Manchester United will be looking to start strong, and there is sure to be quite a bit of intrigue surrounding who gets a starting XI spot. United have made as many as 4 major signings so far this season with center-back Leny Yoro in from Lille, young Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee in from Bologna as well as right-back Noussair Mazraoui and Striker Matthijs de Ligt in from Bayern Munich.
All the signings as well as the return of winger Jadon Sancho who was on loan to Borussia Dortmund will pose a lot of questions as to who gets to play regularly. Sancho most notably had a few issues with United manager Erik ten Hag which saw him loaned out and with him now returning, The Red Devils will hope that Sancho finally plays to his potential at the Theatre of Dreams.
Fulham on the other hand will look to surprise the hosts. It is no secret that Old Trafford has lost the aura of a fortress it once had, and The Cottagers know this all too well. In their last head-to-head meeting, Fulham came away with a 2-1 win as Alex Iwobi scored a late winner for the triumph.
The other Premier League matches set to take place throughout Matchweek 1 are; Ipswich vs Liverpool, Arsenal vs Wolves, Everton vs Brighton, Newcastle vs Southampton, Nottingham Forest vs Bournemouth, and West Ham vs Aston Villa (all on the 17th of August). On the 18th we have Brentford vs Crystal Palace as well as the titanic super Sunday clash of Chelsea vs Manchester City and the matchweek ends with Leicester vs Tottenham on the 19th.
