Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram expressed deep disappointment following Pakistan’s crushing defeat to Bangladesh in the second Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on September 3.
This loss marked a historic low for the team, which has now suffered five consecutive Test defeats, including three against Australia and two against Bangladesh in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC).
Akram described Pakistan’s current cricket situation as a “huge setback” and acknowledged the national team’s sharp decline.
“It’s embarrassing as a former player and captain to witness such performances,” Wasim Akram stated. He highlighted the team’s failure to capitalize on promising positions, which has now dropped Pakistan to eighth in the ICC rankings, below the West Indies.
The once-mighty Pakistan, led by captain Shan Masood, has been unable to reverse its losing streak on home turf, which Akram believes reflects poorly on the overall quality of cricket in the country. “We are losing consistently at home, and that says a lot about where our cricket stands,” he remarked.
Pakistan, still reeling from recent setbacks in both ODI and T20 World Cups, now faces a critical upcoming Test series against England as part of the WTC 2023-25.
The series begins in Multan on October 7, with subsequent matches in Karachi and Rawalpindi. This series presents a pivotal opportunity for Pakistan to recover and rebuild.
