Champions Cup Set to be Included in 2014 Constitution

The Board of Governors (BoG) of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has recommended the inclusion of the newly-introduced Champions Cup in the PCB constitution. This decision was made during the 74th meeting of the BoG, in Faisalabad.

The BoG members unanimously agreed that the Champions Cup, which encompasses three formats—ODI, four-day, and T20—should be formally integrated into the PCB constitution. This integration aims to ensure the continuity and systematic development of domestic cricket in Pakistan.

An official from the meeting stated, “The members have requested PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to include all these three formats in the PCB’s constitution to ensure continuity and evolve a system where the future domestic cricket could be run and developed.”

The BoG proposed that the Champions Cup be incorporated into the PCB Constitution 2014, making it an annual feature. This move is expected to bring continuity, consistency, and clarity to Pakistan’s domestic cricket pathway structure, providing a stable platform for nurturing talent and enhancing the competitive landscape.

The meeting also included a briefing on the Bahria Town Champions One-Day Cup, which kicked off at Iqbal Stadium with an opening match between UMT Markhors and Lake City Panthers. The BoG commended PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for successfully attracting reputable organizations to partner with the tournament, which features the country’s top cricketers.

In light of the enthusiastic response from the Faisalabad crowd, the BoG also suggested that the PCB should assume full control of Iqbal Stadium and upgrade it to international standards.
