Private educational institutions nationwide have strongly opposed the government’s proposal to impose a Point of Sales Tax on private schools charging monthly fees exceeding one thousand rupees. According to a press release, the schools have threatened to launch nationwide protests if the tax is enforced.
Dr. Malik Abrar Hussain, Central President of the All Pakistan Private Schools and Colleges Association, warned that such a tax would significantly increase education costs, making it inaccessible for the average citizen. He explained that a 25% tax hike would substantially raise fees, meaning that a school currently charging 4,000 rupees would need to increase its fees to 5,000, with parents bearing the additional burden. “This move contradicts the government’s slogan of ‘Education for All’ and undermines efforts to address the educational crisis,” he remarked.
During a meeting of the Central Executive Committee of the association, chaired by Dr. Malik Abrar Hussain, members unanimously decided to reject any form of taxation on education. The meeting, held at the association’s central office, also addressed concerns over recent FSC results from the Federal Board of Islamabad. The association intends to escalate these issues to higher authorities and strategize a resolution.
The committee also discussed the status of educational institutions in Islamabad’s sectoral areas, particularly in light of the high court’s ruling on non-conforming use. The association pledged to formulate an action plan with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) once the court’s decision is finalized. It reiterated its commitment to addressing the challenges faced by private schools across the country and fostering public-private partnerships in education.
Key figures at the meeting included Secretary General Muhammad Ashraf Haraj, Javed Iqbal Raja, Irfan Muzaffar Kiani, Malik Hafeezur Rahman, Sardar Gul Zubair Khan, Haji Abdul Rahim, Muhammad Ibrahim, Qasim Abbas, Antakah Hussain, Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmed, Tariq Mehmood Rizvi, Syed Abid Shah, and Madam Sadia. They all expressed their support for resisting the proposed tax and advocating for the interests of students and institutions.

Education Mafia (earning billions) is resisting Tax
Why would the school increase the fees due to Taxes. The profits that school earns should be taxed.
All businessmen simply shift taxes to end user but still this will reveal how much they are looting. Basically they charge heavy fees and in accounting shows loss…
وہ کیوں ٹیکس دیں وہ بیچارے اتنی اعلی تعلیم دے رہے ھیں کہ اب ٹیکس بھی دیں
All private schools should be forced to collect fees through banks for documentation
A little child school fee per quarter is 20000 rs . That’s daylight robbery. All nations who succeeded have children studying in public schools.
Point to any successful nation on the planet.
Bcz education should never be a business
It is compulsory to impose tax on provat schools. Their earnings has Been abnormaly hefty. They keep their actual accounts records hidden to show below tier net profits or losses.
Private schools like private hospitals and clinics are squeezing blood out of the common citizens. I therefore hold the State responsible for two crimes. (1) Providing education (also health) to every citizen of the country is every government’s responsibility. The government has failed to do that. The parents are compelled to send their children to private schools. (2) The parents not only pay through their nose the fees of their children, they are also compelled to bear the ever increasing cost of education because once any tax is imposed, the schools increase their fees so that the tax too is paid by the parents.
Who listens and who cares ???
These private schools are ‘for profit’ business concerns, not charities. They must pay taxes like any other business.
This is commendable step of government in right direction. These private schools are charging very high fee and earning millions in a month. Check out the life style of owners. But government must also confirm that income tax must be deducted from profit without shifting the tax amount on parents. It is also a mafia will not participate in growth of country government has to impose tax strictly.
This is very bad education system delivers to our children. School is the place where a child just pass the time and then by acedmy Mafia use this child to earn money so government should take very serious action all over Pakistan.
Private schools are earning hefty profits without providing promised quality education and paying nominal salaries to staff. But the worst quality of education in government schools has given opportunity to private institutions to empty the pockets of struggling parents,be it school, college or university education.
Make sure charge 25% tax and fo ñot allow them increase fees. They earn billions and pay no tax at all. Appreciate FBR
A suggestion to the worthy govt to impose tax on breathing and farting once for all, to kill the issue. Well done, you deserve all the hatred and abuses.Best thing would be to convert these private schools into govt sector schools to further screw the education system as being done in every department to ruin the country. All are agents of IMF (No 1 Mother F….r)
These schools are already charging students a very high fees earning billions of rupees monthly in addition with expensive syllabuses and uniforms. Thousands of rupees per student for the recreational trips (not less than 5000). They must pay 25% tax on their earnings, why charging from students? Teachers are under qualified and inexperienced and paid very less. The government should assess their income and must charge them with this tax without burdening the parents. Most of the schools have just raised their fees by at least 3000 rupees each student.
Bs kuch reh na jae awam ko zinda rehny k lye.
