Jason Gillespie, the former Australian bowler turned head coach of the Pakistan Test side has expressed his support for the team’s captain, Shan Masood, in lieu of recent disappointing performances.
‘Dizzy’ as he is affectionately known has expressed his confidence in team captain Shan Masood and plans to make Pakistan a strong contender in Test cricket.
Regarding Shan Masood, Coach Gillespie stated in an interview with a news outlet that Shan Masood is playing a significant role. “He’s a strong leader, but he’s faced criticism due to the team’s poor performance. People need to remember that Shan is still very new to this role and only got it in Australia at the end of last year. He’s been captain for five Test matches, so it’s very early days in his leadership”, he said.
The coach also explained that both he and the captain agreed on how they wanted the Pakistani Test side to play. This is especially notable due to Pakistan’s lack of an effective playstyle as of late, which all too often has led to the side looking disorganized and struggling in the longest format of the game.
Jason Gillespie faces challenging times as coach, particularly with Pakistan; ranked 8th, entering a hectic stretch of Test cricket as they prepare to host England for a three-match Test series starting from Monday.
