Pakistan’s young squash star Mehwish Ali has won the Hungarian Junior Open tournament, which took place in Budapest.
Mehwish Ali, competing in the Under-17 category, dominated her group and won both matches to take the title. Her standout moment came when she convincingly defeated Hungary’s top-seeded, Tamara Pescarescu, with scores of 11-5, 11-2, 11-2. Earlier, Mehwish also overcame Hungary’s second seed, Brigitta Kovacs, solidifying her dominance.
This marks Mehwish’s second consecutive junior title with her recently also winning the Nordic Junior Open in Sweden, which has significantly added to her growing reputation on the international squash scene.
Mehwish, alongside her two sisters, made a strong impact at the Hungary Open Junior Squash Championship, with one sister claiming another title in her respective age group and the other finishing as a runner-up.
In the Under-13 division, her sister Mahnoor Ali also captured a title with an impressive performance. Mahnoor overwhelmed Hungary’s top-seed, Krisztina Kun, winning 11-1, 11-1, 11-0. Her powerful shots and relentless pressure left Kun with no chance, securing a quick and decisive victory.
Their third sister, Sehrish Ali, came close to winning the Under-15 title but finished as runner-up after a hard-fought final against Cassy Lincou of France. Despite a strong effort, Sehrish lost 18-20, 6-11, 3-11 in a tough battle against Lincou.
