Mini Mazda truck transporters have started a nationwide strike in response to vehicle seizures and increased toll taxes imposed by the Excise Department. Protesters have set up a camp at Lahore’s Babu Sabu Chowk, vowing to continue their sit-in until their demands are addressed.
Additionally, the protest has led to the blocking of the road near Rohi Nala in Gajjumata, which has caused significant traffic disruption. The strike has raised concerns about potential shortages of essential goods, as the supply chain may be affected.
Transporters at the protest claim that vehicles purchased in auctions are frequently impounded by the Excise Department. This has severely impacted their businesses, and they demand an immediate solution.
Haji Sher Ali, president of the Mini Mazda Association, expressed their resolve to continue protesting, even for a month if necessary. Protesters said the sit-in was initiated after failed negotiations with the transport minister, and they will not stop until their demands are met.
