As Pakistan prepares to face Australia in a highly anticipated ODI match, team management and selectors are likely to focus on assembling a balanced squad for the playing XI that combines experience with emerging talent.
With the need for consistent performances, adaptability, and resilience, Pakistan is expected to go with a playing XI that can handle Australia’s aggressive and high-quality cricket.
With coach Jason Gillespie having no output on the players, any surprises could be in the offing.
Pakistan Probable XI for 1st Australia ODI:
Opening Duo: Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub.
With Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq back home, Pakistan looks likely to go with the two obvious choices in Abdullah and Saim to continue with the same philosophy. Saim and provide Pakistan with an electric start while Abdullah can build his innings and provide stability throughout the innings.
Middle Order: Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Kamran Ghulam.
Pakistan is likely not to tinker with the middle-order except with the introduction of Kamran who can add an extra element of control in the middle-overs. Rizwan and Babar, who are returning to the side after a brief rest, can influence the result of the game on their own so their presence is vital.
Lower Middle Order and All-Rounders: Salman Ali Agha, Arafat Minhas, Aamer Jamal.
If the theories of Aqib-ball are true, Pakistan is likely to introduce a new lower middle order featuring promising plays in Arafat and Aamer Jamal. Aamer got the nod of approval in the test series against England which shows his importance to the team while Arafat Minhas had a taste of stardom in the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Capable with both bat and the ball, he could be the next big thing in Pakistan cricket.
Salman Ali Agha, meanwhile, needs no introduction. He is now the vice-captain which shows the faith the management has in him.
Pace Battery: Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Hasnain and Naseem Shah
Hasnain is likely to be rewarded for his rich vein of form which means one of the pacers will have to make way. The likeliest candidate is Haris Rauf with Naseem and Shaheen offering better swinging prospects than the fiery pacer. However, Pakistan will likely go an all-out pace attack meaning Arafat is left out but that will be risky if the conditions do not work out for the bowlers.
Probable Playing XI:

2. Abdullah Shafique
3. Kamran Ghulam

6. Salman Ali Agha (vc)
