West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has criticized Alzarri Joseph’s behavior during the third ODI against England, calling it “unacceptable.”
The fast bowler left the field twice during the match following a disagreement with captain Shai Hope over field placements, sparking concerns.
In the fourth over of the innings in Bridgetown, the pacer seemed frustrated with the field placements and was seen exchanging words with captain Shai Hope.
Despite dismissing Jordan Cox in the same over, Joseph did not join in the team’s celebration. Instead, he returned to his bowling mark and, at the end of the over, unexpectedly left the field. This left the West Indies temporarily fielding with just ten players as Joseph headed to the dressing room.
Joseph returned to the field at the start of the sixth over but did not bowl again until the 12th. After a few misfields resulted in overthrows for England, he left the field for a second time. The fast bowler later came back and completed his full quota, finishing with figures of 2 wickets for 45 runs from his 10 overs.
Clearly displeased with Alzarri Joseph’s behavior, Head Coach Sammy said in an interview following the match that the behavior by Alzarri Joseph was unacceptable on his cricket field, “We will be friends, but in the culture I’m trying to build, that’s unacceptable. We will definitely have a chat about that.” Sammy explained.
Former all-rounder and T20 World Cup-winning captain Sammy, who became head coach in May 2023, is recognized for his effective leadership and communication abilities. In the recent past, he has successfully reintegrated several important players, including Andre Russell and Evin Lewis, back into the team.
