Pakistan cricket team’s interim white-ball head coach Jason Gillespie has praised the team’s up-and-coming batter Saim Ayub for his ability to contribute in each facet of the game.
Gillespie made the comments during an interview, where he complemented Saim on his improvement in recent years, especially with the ball. He said,
Saim’s basic plan when he bowls is to spin it away from the batter on strike. He bowls off-spin to lefties and the carrom ball to right-handers. He’s a talented little cricketer – smacks them with the bat, good in the field, and he rates his medium pace as well, he tells me. Multi-talented boy.
Gillespie’s praise for the left-hander is not without merit. He has recently been molded into a role once occupied by Mohammad Hafeez which allows the coaches and selectors a little more flexibility in forming the playing XI as Saim Ayub can play all the roles depending on the situation.
Despite being with the international team, Saim has at times struggled to become a permanent member of the playing XI despite the obviousness of his talent. He managed to smack 82 runs in the second ODI against Australia which should help his confidence a bunch.
While Gillespie may not be in his corner for long in white-ball cricket, the Australian is certain to keep him around in the test cricket as well which should only help Saim get even better with time.
The 22-year-old has already earned 31 caps across all formats for Pakistan which shows the confidence all the management has in Saim and his future.
