More Bad News Announced Regarding Smog Across Pakistan

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a smog advisory, cautioning that smog levels will rise across several Pakistani cities in November and December.

The advisory highlights that smog will heavily impact cities like Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Peshawar, Nowshera, and Mardan, with peak levels anticipated in the mornings and evenings.

The NDMA urged residents to take precautions by limiting non-essential travel and wearing masks to reduce exposure to air pollutants.

Authorities are actively monitoring air quality and implementing measures to manage the smog, which tends to worsen in Pakistan’s winter months due to seasonal weather patterns and pollution.

In Islamabad, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has been exceeding the World Health Organization’s (WHO) air quality standards. People with respiratory issues have been advised to wear masks to safeguard against the hazardous air.

According to the Meteorological Department, dry weather is expected to persist in Islamabad and surrounding areas, with a likelihood of smog and fog.

In Punjab, smog and fog are anticipated in the mornings and evenings across Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Narowal, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mangla, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, and Faisalabad. South Punjab cities like Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Multan, Layyah, Bhakkar, Khanewal, Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan are also expected to experience smog.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, cities including Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan are likely to face fog and smog. The Met Department also forecasts foggy conditions in Sindh’s Sukkur, Larkana, Kashmore, and Khairpur regions.

Meanwhile, cold weather is expected in Balochistan’s hilly areas, especially during the mornings and nights.
