No Issues Were Raised on Champions Trophy Schedule in Last ICC Meeting

In the intricate chessboard of international cricket, recent developments surrounding the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 schedule paint a picture of escalating tensions.

Sources close to the matter revealed that during the recent ICC Board meeting in Dubai, not a single participating nation, including India, raised any concerns about Pakistan’s role as host or the proposed match schedule.

The meeting saw unanimous approval of the 15-match schedule, designed in collaboration with the PCB and earmarking Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi as the tournament’s primary venues. The schedule, ratified by ICC’s principal broadcast partner was formally shared with each team.

“No Member has raised any concerns with the schedule as circulated,” confirmed meeting minutes. Yet, despite this initial harmony, tensions flared soon after, with India informally informing the ICC of its reservations about traveling to Pakistan—a move that some close to the PCB suspect may reflect a calculated intent to disrupt proceedings as the tournament nears.

“There was no hint of this issue during the ICC Board meeting, the correct forum for such matters,” noted a source from Islamabad. “Yet, just as Pakistan was preparing to launch a major event marking the 100-day countdown to the Champions Trophy, the BCCI conveyed its position verbally.”

According to insiders, a high-profile schedule reveal, complete with the tournament’s branding and trophy tour announcement, was set for November 11—an event now overshadowed by these geopolitical uncertainties.

PCB officials, in the meantime, have taken a proactive stance, initiating security briefings and overseeing development work across the three venues.

During the October board meeting, PCB representatives detailed the progress of preparations and secured ICC’s green light to conduct an international testing event at each venue in January, aimed at evaluating the venues’ readiness for the global stage. Security managers from all participating nations had been briefed on a comprehensive master security plan—again, without objection from any team.

The timing couldn’t be worse: with less than 100 days until the Champions Trophy, the ambiguity now engulfing the tournament is not only dampening the excitement of cricket enthusiasts worldwide but also stalling the efforts of commercial stakeholders whose branding campaigns and brand activations hinge on the tournament’s certainty.
