BYD, one of China’s leading battery manufacturers, has partnered with TAILG, a major producer of electric bikes. This collaboration marks TAILG as the first significant two-wheeler manufacturer to work with BYD. The partnership was announced during TAILG’s product launch on Monday and focuses on enhancing battery technology for electric motorcycles, e-bikes, and scooters.
Both companies will work together to optimize BYD batteries for electric two-wheelers. They aim to extend the lifespan of the batteries to match the needs of the vehicles. Additionally, improving battery safety is a top priority, given the increasing concerns about electric two-wheeler fires and safety.
TAILG is based in Shenzhen, China, just like BYD. It is one of the largest electric two-wheeler manufacturers in China, with an annual production capacity of 15 million units. TAILG’s products, including electric motorcycles, bikes, tricycles, and scooters, are sold in over 90 countries and through 30,000 stores worldwide.
BYD is China’s second-largest battery manufacturer, behind CATL. It has a strong presence in the electric vehicle market and is known for its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. In October, BYD secured a 26.7% market share in the EV battery sector by installing 15.82 GWh of batteries in electric vehicles.
In February, BYD announced it would focus on producing safe LFP batteries for the two-wheeler market. This decision came after a fire in Nanjing, which allegedly started in an area where electric two-wheelers were parked, resulting in 15 deaths and 44 injuries.
Following this incident, concerns over the safety of electric two-wheelers have grown. Several Chinese cities have banned parking two-wheelers inside buildings to reduce the risk of fires. BYD and TAILG’s partnership aims to address these safety concerns by developing safer, more reliable battery technology for electric two-wheelers.
