The Capital Development Authority (CDA) board has postponed installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at fuel stations in Islamabad, awaiting the federal government’s finalization of a policy.
During a meeting on Tuesday at the CDA headquarters, chaired by Muhammad Ali Randhawa, board members reviewed multiple agenda items, including a proposal to establish EV charging infrastructure across the city.
The proposal suggested that all existing fuel stations in Islamabad should be required to install at least one EV charging point, while new fuel stations would need to include a minimum of two EV chargers as a mandatory feature.
Despite discussing the plan, the board opted to delay its implementation until a comprehensive EV policy is announced by the federal government to prevent any potential policy inconsistencies.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the importance of promoting electric vehicles in Pakistan and has already established a high-level steering committee to finalize the EV policy. However, the policy is still under development and has yet to be officially unveiled.
