Sindh Ends Job Quota for Families of Deceased Employees

In Sindh, the deceased employees’ quota for their children has been abolished.

The Sindh cabinet approved the decision to terminate the deceased quota on December 4, 2024, following a Supreme Court ruling and a notification has now been issued. Under this decision, no further recruitment will be made under the deceased employees’ quota in the province.

On October 18, 2024, the Supreme Court declared the quota policy and packages related to government employees’ children as illegal. The court instructed the federal and provincial governments to end the policy of employing government employees’ children without advertisements or open merit.

Additionally, the Supreme Court nullified the “Prime Minister’s Package for Employment Policy” and its office memorandum, as well as Section 11-A of the Sindh Civil Servants Rules 1974.

The court ruled that quotas for widows or children in government jobs without advertisements or open merit violated Articles 3, 4, 5(2), 25, and 27 of the Constitution.

However, the Supreme Court clarified that its decision would not affect those already employed under the deceased quota. Furthermore, the ruling does not apply to the legal heirs of individuals martyred in acts of terrorism.
