Elon Musk’s Starlink Has Applied for License to Operate in Pakistan: IT Minister

State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, informed the National Assembly that two international entities, Elon Musk’s Starlink Internet Services Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. and Chinese satellite company Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology, have applied for licenses to operate in Pakistan.

In a written statement, she clarified that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is currently only processing applications from companies registered with the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

According to the minister, PTA’s licensing regime mandates that only locally registered companies are eligible to submit applications. While applications from international entities are not being directly entertained, those registered under SECP can apply for licenses. Both Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX providing satellite-based internet services, and Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology, a Chinese company specializing in satellite communication solutions, are seeking to expand their operations in Pakistan under this framework.

The minister highlighted that the licensing process is straightforward and free of challenges once an application is submitted. The PTA processes applications after the completion of codal formalities and security clearance from the Ministry of Interior, if required. Furthermore, the introduction of the Online Application Submission Information System (OASIS) has streamlined the process, allowing applicants to submit documents and track the status of their applications remotely.

PTA is actively monitoring the Quality of Service (QoS) of internet providers to ensure compliance with global standards. Under the Fixed Broadband Quality of Service (QoS) Regulations, 2022, internet services are regularly evaluated to meet performance benchmarks. This approach is aimed at maintaining reliable and high-quality connectivity across the country.

  • Miss Shaza Starlink has applied since 2021. I think only that Chinese company’s application is the news to me. But I have a feeling that only Chinese Company will be allowed while Musk’s starlink would remain in limbo as it has been since 2021.
Part of me wants to see Starlink being given approval, and its services start here, but then I see Musk being turned into full-blown Zionist and Isreali Government’s Mouthpiece. Seeing him amplyfying the anti Islam Voices but retweeting and dog whistling Genocidal Zionists. And that makes me rethink and want his company to remain blocked in pakistan.
Just recently, Musk, the self-proclaimed free speech advocate, blocked that German Christams attacker’s Twitter account when it came to light that he was a Zio and spoke highly of Israel and Netanyahu He only reinstated it once he removed all of his Pro Isreal Tweets.

    • I am pretty sure someone in gov. knows much more than this, but you got a point, more Zionist ads and so on, on second thought this whole sh*t is happening right now, look around, how they are trying to convince us to hate gov and army in many different ways, I am not saying they are innocent but still they are, if not all, are the reasons how this country is fighting shadow wars, and we the people are they greatiest weapon against our own. In most cases we do see some development but with a cost.

  • What is she a spokesman for musk or his lover ???

Where is official confirmation ??? Where is proof ?

Also starlink is already known as a scam . It is slower then 5g . Extremely expensive and unaffordable .

You vs can’t even provide normal internet and talking about starlink . Fazool log

  • Starlink’s entry into Pakistan has the potential to revolutionize internet connectivity, especially in underserved rural areas. However, it will be interesting to see how the government navigates regulatory challenges, ensures data security, and fosters healthy competition with local ISPs. If executed effectively, this collaboration could significantly boost Pakistan’s digital economy and bridge the connectivity gap.

  • Elite people who can afford star link should be allowed instantly. also bring 5g in april. Most areas of pakistan are remote. Provincial govts should be given license to manage their own systems. PTA has done nothing. On wikipedia fixed broadband our number is 153 and in mobile connection our speed rank is 86. we need to boycott PTA and give authority to provincial. Federal has failed badly.Since 2021 PTA stopping starlink from work.

    • Starlink type companies cannot be given license to operate in countries like Pakistan. Because starlink will prefer to provide internet through its own exchanges and data centers. Also provincial govt can’t be given this authority. Our country’s system is like north Korea’s system.
You know well what I mean.

  • starlink and chinese both are satellite networks, pakistan is a security state run by establishment so there is no hope that they will operate in pakistan

  • This “minister” of IT is a joke. It’s apparent from all her public appearance that she knows jackshit about IT

  • PTA is actively monitoring the Quality of Service (QoS) of internet providers to ensure compliance with global standards.

    >>>> Was it a Joke?
