A blistering century from opener Yasir Ali and a match-winning bowling performance by Mohammad Ali helped Stallions secure a commanding 75-run victory over Markhors in the final of the Champions T20 Cup at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Wednesday evening. The victory added another prestigious title to the Stallions’ trophy cabinet, while Markhors were left to rue their second loss in a final this year.
Yasir Ali Powers Stallions
Opting to bat first, Stallions set a daunting target of 200 runs. Yasir Ali was the star of the innings, slamming a brilliant 100 off just 57 balls. His knock was powered by seven towering sixes and five boundaries, taking the game away from Markhors. Yasir’s 100 was the highlight of the Stallions’ 199-5 in 20 overs, a score that proved too steep for the Markhors’ batting lineup.
Mohammad Ali Destroys Markhors with Three-Wicket Haul
In response, Markhors struggled to build partnerships and were bowled out for just 124 runs in 19.1 overs. The chase never gained momentum as wickets fell at regular intervals, and the Markhors’ batting line-up faltered under pressure.
Fakhar Zaman, who had been in excellent form throughout the tournament, was dismissed for just 20 runs by Jahandad Khan, who finished with figures of 2-31. The key breakthrough for the Stallions came early when Mohammad Ali cleaned up the Markhors’ middle order, finishing with impressive figures of 3-19.
Usman Tariq (2-10) bowled a tight spell, and together with Ali, they ensured that Markhors’ chase was effectively snuffed out. Mohammad Faizan (43 off 33 balls) fought a lone battle for Markhors, hitting three sixes and as many fours, but he lacked support from the other end.
Award Winners
The final saw standout performances not just from the match-winners, but throughout the tournament. Yasir Ali, for his explosive century, was named Player of the Final, while Mohammad Ali was deservedly awarded Player of the Tournament for his match-winning bowling performances, including his pivotal 3-19 in the final.
In addition, Hussain Talat was named Best Batter of the Tournament, while Mohammad Ali bagged the title of Best Bowler of the Tournament, solidifying his exceptional all-round contribution to Stallions’ victory.
