Pakistan’s Sohail Adnan Clinches Historic Title at British Junior Open Squash Championship

In a thrilling contest that had fans on the edge of their seats, Pakistan’s rising squash star, Muhammad Sohail Adnan, secured the coveted U-13 title at the 2025 British Junior Open Squash Championship.

Sohail Adnan’s remarkable 3-2 victory over Egypt’s top seed Moez Tamer Elmoghazy — 11-5, 5-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-5 — not only earned him his first major international title but also ended an 18-year title drought for Pakistan at the prestigious British Junior Open Squash Championship.

The Pakistan flag was raised above the winners’ podium for the first time since 2007, marking a pivotal moment in the country’s squash history. The win brought back memories of Pakistan’s golden era in the sport, as the last Pakistani to claim the title was Nasir Iqbal, who triumphed in 2007.

Team manager Muhammad Mansoor hailed the win as a testament to Adnan’s grit and determination. “Adnan achieved his destiny today,” Mansoor said.

“He is completely and utterly determined. Despite living away from home, he trains rigorously in Lahore, dedicating hours every day to his craft. His resilience and mental toughness were key to this victory. It’s a breakthrough for Pakistan squash, especially after the Egyptians have dominated this event for so long.”

Sohail Adnan’s journey to the final of the British Junior Open Squash Championship was nothing short of inspiring. Battling against some of the world’s top junior squash talent, he demonstrated his exceptional skill and mental fortitude throughout the tournament. In the final, despite being down 2-1 in games, Adnan showed remarkable composure to fight back, winning the last two games and sealing the win.

His performance was particularly impressive given the high level of competition, with Elmoghazy coming into the final as the top seed and the favorite to win. Yet, Adnan’s ability to recover after dropping the third game showcased his resilience and mental toughness, qualities that are expected to carry him forward in his squash career.

The win has ignited fresh hope within the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF), who view Adnan’s achievement as a sign of a bright future for the sport in the country. “This victory is not just a personal triumph for Sohail but also a beacon of hope for the resurgence of Pakistan’s squash talent on the international stage,” a PSF spokesperson said.
