Federal Cabinet Transfers Responsibility of Exercising PECA Law to Interior Ministry

The federal cabinet on Tuesday approved the amendment to the Rules of Business, 1973 to officially transfer the responsibility of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 from the Ministry of IT & Telecom to the Interior Ministry.

This was decided during the federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister Office today.

The cabinet also extended the validity of licenses for 86 foreign pilots working in Pakistan by two more years and approved a three-year extension for new foreign pilot validations starting in 2025 to address the shortage of local pilots caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and previous bans on Pakistani pilots.

Meanwhile, a committee led by Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has been formed to review the Toshakhana Act 2024 to ensure transparency in managing state gifts. The cabinet further ratified Economic Coordination Committee decisions from meetings held on January 6 and 17, 2025.

The cabinet approved rules for appointing officials to the National Seed Development and Regulatory Authority and appointed Dr. Ammar Habib Khan as Member Finance of the NEPRA Appellate Tribunal.

The Prime Minister urged the timely delivery of the PM’s Relief Package to the deserving and formed a committee to oversee the revival of the Utility Stores Corporation.
