Punjab to Build 20,000 Houses in a Month

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has called for the swift construction of a minimum of 20,000 houses for low-income residents in Punjab within one month. Chairing a special meeting on Tuesday regarding the Apni Chhat-Apna Ghar scheme, she thoroughly reviewed the project’s progress, which aims to provide free plots to homeless individuals across the province.

During the meeting, various recommendations and proposals were discussed, and the chief minister ordered a comprehensive evaluation of government housing schemes offering three and five-marla plots throughout Punjab. To streamline the process of providing free plots, an eight-member committee was formed to finalize the terms of reference (TORs).

The meeting emphasized accelerating development activities, particularly focusing on completing 2,807 plots across 35 schemes in 22 districts. Additionally, the chief minister directed officials to expedite work on 1,119 plots across nine housing schemes in seven districts, aiming for the completion of 20,000 housing units by February.

Maryam Nawaz underscored the commitment to meet the annual target of constructing 100,000 houses, regardless of challenges. She was updated that loans amounting to Rs8.20 billion had already been disbursed for housing construction, with 2,050 individuals receiving their second loan installment.

Furthermore, it was noted that over 0.728 million citizens had visited the Apni Chhat-Apna Ghar portal, resulting in more than 0.4 million applications with complete documentation for the scheme.
