Donkey Slaughterhouse Operational in Gwadar

Pakistan’s first donkey slaughterhouse in Gwadar is now operational and production is well underway.

Food Ministry officials informed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Food Security on Thursday that a deal has been signed with China for the export of donkey skins and bones.

A Chinese company will handle all related operations in Gwadar.

The committee chairman questioned why live donkeys were not being exported to China. Officials explained that it was a challenging process, however, applications for more slaughterhouses are being received from other parts of the country, and discussions are ongoing with more Chinese companies.

A committee member noted that donkeys are becoming less common in Pakistan as loader rickshaws have largely replaced them for transport. He suggested that efforts should be made to breed high-quality donkeys.

Apart from donkeys, duck breeding was also mentioned during the meeting.
