Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Najmi Alam has called on the Sindh government and Karachi South administration to shut down tea hotels in the Defence and Clifton areas by midnight, citing security and public concerns.
In a letter addressed to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Deputy Commissioner South Karachi, Alam claimed that these tea hotels have become gathering spots for criminal activities, including drug trafficking.
He pointed to Clifton Block 2, where he alleged that such illegal activities continued throughout the night.
The PPP leader also raised concerns over loud music played at these establishments, stating that it has become a nuisance for residents. He emphasized that the increasing public complaints highlight the need for stricter regulations.
Alam urged the administration to enforce a fixed closing time for tea hotels to improve public safety and curb illegal activities. Copies of his letter have also been forwarded to the Sindh Chief Minister and Karachi Commissioner for further action.
The call for restrictions comes amid growing concerns over nightlife-related disturbances in the city, with authorities now expected to assess the situation and determine the necessary steps.
