Pakistan cricket team’s underwhelming performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has drawn sharp criticism from former captain and batting legend Inzamam-ul-Haq, who has called for a serious review of the team’s strategy in major tournaments.
Frustrated by yet another disappointing display, Inzamam expressed his concerns over Pakistan’s repeated failures on the big stage, pointing fingers at both the players and the selection committee.
Speaking in a social media video, Inzamam voiced his disappointment, emphasizing how Pakistan has struggled to handle pressure in recent ICC events. He pointed out that this trend is not new, with similar collapses occurring in previous editions of the Asia Cup, World Cup, and T20 World Cup.
“We are not even standing anywhere. We get knocked out right at the start. The moment there’s a little pressure, we completely collapse,” he lamented.
Inzamam, a former chief selector, did not hold back on the current selection committee either, calling out the Pakistan cricket team’s flawed squad composition, particularly the lack of a backup spinner in conditions that favor slow bowling.
“Seven out of eight teams have at least one regular spinner, but we only selected one for the entire tournament. This isn’t just a mistake—it’s a blunder,” he remarked.
The former batting great was also left unimpressed with the decision to open with Babar Azam.
“Your world-class number three batter has had his position changed. Your selection deserves a round of applause for this brilliance,” he said sarcastically.
Inzamam-ul-Haq is not the only legend to call out the current national cricket team for its chastening defeat to India, which left their Champions Trophy semifinal hopes in a ditch. With calls for quick action mounting, wholesale changes to Pakistan cricket may be in the offing sooner rather than later.
