Former Captain Wants Pakistan to Completely Change Team

Former Pakistan captain Moin Khan has called for “difficult decisions” following Pakistan’s early exit from the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. Speaking on Friday, Moin criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for its lack of merit-based selections and demanded a complete overhaul of the national team.

Moin reminded fans and officials alike that after Pakistan’s failure in the T20 World Cup, the PCB had promised “surgery” in the team, but no significant changes were made. “At that time, surgery didn’t happen either. We need to make tough decisions now,” he said.

The former wicketkeeper-batter emphasized the need for “new blood” in the team, urging the PCB to bring in fresh talent and hold players and officials accountable. He accused the board of being run by non-technical individuals with no understanding of cricket, suggesting that ex-cricketers should take charge instead of those with personal interests.

Moin Khan also criticized the selection process, pointing out that underperforming players continue to get opportunities while deserving talent is overlooked. “The team now needs new blood,” he reiterated, stressing the importance of hard work and accountability at all levels.

Even Pakistan’s biggest batting star, Babar Azam, wasn’t spared from Moin’s critique. While acknowledging Babar’s talent, Moin urged him to evolve his game and mindset to reach the next level. “Babar Azam is a good player, but he needs to transform himself. He should evolve like Virat Kohli has,” he said, suggesting that Babar adopt a more professional approach to his game.
