The Punjab government has banned several stage actresses from performing in theatres, citing concerns over their “indecent” dance performances.
According to the Punjab Arts Council, the banned performers will not be allowed to participate in any theatre shows during Eid-ul-Fitr. A list of restricted artists has been issued, including well-known stage actresses Sonia Chaudhary, Silk Jutt, Arooj Khan, Tina Chaudhary, and Adeeba Rana, among others.
Authorities have also sent legal notices to the banned performers, accusing them of engaging in “immoral actions” on stage. The government has demanded an explanation from the actresses, but no responses have been received so far.
The crackdown comes as part of an effort to regulate stage performances and ensure they align with cultural and moral standards. Officials stated that further action may be taken if the performers fail to respond to the notices.
Stage theatres in Punjab often attract large audiences, especially during festive seasons like Eid, but authorities have been increasingly monitoring performances to curb content deemed inappropriate.
