According to Chattha, the CCD has been formed to specifically deal with hardened criminals, including those involved in major crimes across Punjab. The department will play a central role in addressing drug trafficking, kidnappings for ransom, extortion, robberies, and gang-related violence.

Inspector General of Police Dr. Usman Anwar highlighted that Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) are actively supporting the CCD’s establishment by providing human resources, vehicles, office space, and other logistical support.

He further shared that funds have been allocated, and recruitment will be carried out in phases. Procurement for transport, office equipment, and IT infrastructure is also set to begin, while suitable locations for CCD police stations are being finalised.

The CCD will be equipped with advanced surveillance systems, a criminal database, modern tracking tools, and a strong IT backbone to ensure swift and effective action. Personnel will be trained to respond promptly and efficiently to high-stakes cases.

The department’s mandate includes dismantling criminal networks operating across districts and provinces, curbing vehicle theft, acting against land mafias, and strengthening coordination between law enforcement units for better crime prevention.
