The Rawalpindi Express, Shoaib Akhtar, is still not over the “90s cricketers” comment made by Mohammad Hafeez. In a viral clip from the PSL X post-match show The Dug Out, Akhtar delivered a sharp retort to the Professor’s controversial remark.
On The Dug Out, Shoaib Akhtar responded pointedly, recalling Hafeez’s critique: “That guy [Hafeez] is telling Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, ‘Sir, you left no legacy.’” Akhtar countered by highlighting the 1990s team’s dominance, noting over 70 ODI victories against India during his era—a feat unmatched to this day. In a direct jab, he asked, “What’s your legacy?”

Hafeez had previously claimed that legends like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar, and Inzamam-ul-Haq left a “hollow legacy” due to their failure to secure an ICC trophy.
During a discussion on The Pavilion amid Pakistan’s disappointing Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, Hafeez stated, “I am a big admirer of the cricketers from the 1990s, but they didn’t bring home an ICC trophy. They were part of the World Cups in 1996, 1999, and 2003, and despite strong performances, we lost each time, including a heavy defeat in the 1999 final.”
He contrasted this with Pakistan’s 2009 T20 World Cup and 2017 Champions Trophy victories, crediting Younis Khan and, later on, Babar Azam for inspiring future generations. Hafeez’s remarks drew significant backlash from both former players and fans.
