Quetta Gladiators’ spinner has been reported for a suspect bowling action following his team’s Pakistan Super League (PSL X) match against Lahore Qalandars at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The concern was raised by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Brown, casting a shadow over Usman Tariq and his participation in the ongoing PSL X season.
As per PSL regulations, aligned with International Cricket Council (ICC) protocols, Usman is permitted to continue bowling in upcoming matches pending further review. However, a second report during the tournament would result in an immediate suspension from bowling. In such a case, Usman would require clearance from an ICC-accredited biomechanics laboratory to resume his bowling duties in competitive cricket.
The report adds to Quetta Gladiators’ challenges after their 79-run defeat to Lahore Qalandars, where they struggled to chase a formidable target of 220. Despite the loss, Usman Tariq was the pick of the bowlers for Quetta, taking a wicket and conciding just 31 runs in his 4 overs.
The PSL has maintained a stringent stance on bowling actions to uphold the integrity of the game, with umpires tasked to monitor compliance closely. Usman’s case will likely prompt the Quetta management to work swiftly with the player to ensure adherence to regulations, avoiding further penalties that could disrupt their campaign.
