Karachi Kings may have suffered a defeat at home against Lahore Qalandars, but their seasoned pacer Hasan Ali walked away with a personal milestone that has etched his name into Pakistan Super League (PSL) history.
Despite Fakhar Zaman’s sublime century powering Lahore to a commanding victory at the National Bank Cricket Arena, Hasan’s four-wicket haul and a cameo with the bat stood out as a silver lining in an otherwise disappointing night for the hosts. The right-arm pacer returned impressive figures of 4 for 28 in his four overs and, in doing so, equaled Wahab Riaz’s record as the joint-highest wicket-taker in PSL history.
Wahab, the long-time pace spearhead for Peshawar Zalmi, had amassed 113 wickets across 87 innings in the league. Hasan Ali has now matched that mark in just 83 PSL innings, making his ascent to the top all the more remarkable in terms of efficiency and consistency.
The race for the all-time leading wicket-taker spot in the PSL is heating up, with several big names not far behind. Shaheen Shah Afridi, already a dominant force for Lahore, has 108 wickets to his name in just 74 innings. Shadab Khan (96 wickets in 85 innings) and Faheem Ashraf (79 in 72) round out the top five.
Hasan Ali will now look to move past Wahab’s PSL tally and claim the record outright when Karachi Kings face Quetta Gladiators on April 18. Given his current rhythm and the raw energy he brings to the field, it may only be a matter of time before he sits alone atop the PSL’s all-time bowling charts.
