The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has initiated steps to administratively separate the Pakistan Super League (PSL), with plans to register it as a private limited company, according to Salman Naseer, Chief Commercial Officer of the PSL.
In an informal discussion with journalists, Naseer revealed that the paperwork for “Pakistan Super League Private Limited” has been finalized, with a formal announcement expected after the conclusion of PSL Season 10, which commenced on April 11, 2025.
This move follows years and years of deliberation, with the PCB’s governing board first approving the PSL’s de-linking in November 2016 under then-PSL chairman Najam Sethi. The proposal aimed to establish the PSL as an independent entity with its own governing board, registered as a private company to operate autonomously from the PCB. However, the plan for PSL as a separate entity faced delays due to legal and administrative hurdles, including opposition from the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and concerns over PCB officials’ involvement in a private entity.
The separation aims to enhance operational efficiency and attract private investment, though details on revenue-sharing and governance remain undisclosed. The announcement has sparked cautious optimism among franchises, who have long sought clarity on the league’s financial model. Further details are anticipated post-season.
