Pakistan’s esports icon Arslan Ash received a bit of a shock when he found out that the man behind the Tekken series, Katsuhiro Harada, had blocked him on X (formerly Twitter).
The five-time EVO Tekken champion shared a screenshot of Harada’s block, which went viral, enraging the fighting game community (FGC), who speculated Harada targeted Ash for his vocal criticism of Tekken 8’s Season 2 changes, including contentious balance tweaks and character redesigns.
Arslan Ash has consistently critiqued the game’s updates, aligning with widespread FGC dissatisfaction. Harada’s history of clashing with critics, such as accusing a fan of “spreading toxicity” over Anna Williams’ redesign, fueled outrage. Fans on X rallied behind Ash, with one stating, “Blocking the GOAT of Tekken is a new low.” The incident amplified concerns about Tekken 8’s direction, already facing “Overwhelmingly Negative” Steam reviews.
Harada responded on X, calling the block an “operational error” and clarifying he had messaged Ash privately, referencing a prior friendly encounter in Las Vegas. Ash updated followers, tweeting, “I thought maybe I did something wrong, but it was just a misunderstanding 😅 Everything is good 👍,” confirming the resolution.
As Tekken 8 gears up for a mid-May patch, the FGC hopes for better developer-player dialogue. Ash, fresh off defending his Uprising Korea 2023 title, continues to compete globally, with his next tournament, Combo Breaker 2025, scheduled for May.
