Islamabad United have brought in West Indies all-rounder Kyle Mayers as a replacement player for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season. This decision comes after both overseas players, Matt Short and Rassie van der Dussen, were ruled out of the tournament, the team confirmed today.
An Islamabad United spokesman announced that Rassie van der Dussen, the South African batter, will not be able to join the squad this season due to personal reasons. “Rassie van der Dussen won’t be able to join IU this season due to personal reasons,” the spokesman said, adding that the team fully supports his decision.
Earlier, the team had named Australia’s Alex Carey as a partial replacement for van der Dussen, but Carey also withdrew due to domestic commitments in Australia. Matt Short, an Australian all-rounder, is also unavailable, though specific reasons for his absence were not disclosed by the team.
Kyle Mayers, 32, brings a wealth of experience to Islamabad United. Known for his aggressive batting and handy medium-pace bowling, Mayers has played 24 T20Is for West Indies and has been a consistent performer in T20 leagues worldwide, including the Caribbean Premier League. His inclusion is expected to strengthen United’s batting and provide flexibility in their bowling attack as they aim to defend their title.
Despite the injuries and setbacks, Islamabad United have been on a roll in PSL 10, winning all four of their match to stay on top of the table. The three-time champions will look to continue their unbeaten streak as they take on a resurgent Multan Sultans in their backyard.
