Three More Punjab Cities to Get Mass Transit Systems and Electric Buses

The Punjab government has approved major developments in public transport as part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Vision T-30, a long-term strategy aimed at modernising urban mobility across the province by 2030.

In the 25th Punjab cabinet meeting, chaired by the Chief Minister, the cabinet gave the green light to launch environment-friendly electric bus services in various cities, including a new directive to start the service in Rajanpur. The initiative aims to provide affordable and clean transportation to the public.

The cabinet also approved feasibility studies for mass transit systems in two major cities — Faisalabad and Gujranwala — marking a significant step toward improving the transport infrastructure in Punjab’s growing urban centres.

Vision T-30, short for Transport Vision 2030, is focused on making public transport more accessible, safer, and environmentally sustainable. It aims to serve over a million people daily, reduce traffic accidents by half, and replace a significant portion of the fleet with eco-friendly vehicles.

The plan also promises modern facilities and a better travel experience, particularly for women, while strengthening digital governance and enforcement.
