Cyber Alert Raised After Suspected Indian Attack on Govt Infrastructure: PTA

In the wake of rising tensions between Pakistan and India, Pakistani authorities have raised a cyber alert following suspected cyberattacks originating from India targeting the country’s critical infrastructure.

Sources in the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) told ProPakistani that unverified reports of cyber intrusions by Indian hackers have been received. While the incidents remain under investigation, the National Telecom CERT (NT-CERT) and other relevant institutions are actively monitoring the situation and verifying each threat alert.

Although no major Pakistani website has officially been confirmed as compromised, the PTA and NT-CERT have ramped up cyber defenses. Authorities have enforced 24/7 security monitoring of critical infrastructure, tightened oversight of web servers and network systems, and issued cyber alerts to both public and private organizations.

These steps are part of a broader strategy to enhance threat detection and prevent any potential cyber breaches before damage occurs.

Sources at the PTA confirmed that social media has become a new front in this cyber conflict. A number of Indian bot and fake accounts are reportedly spreading toxic propaganda and hate content against Pakistan on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter). In response, the PTA has initiated actions to identify and block these accounts that are engaged in spreading disinformation.

The PTA has reported nearly 50 URLs associated with such Indian accounts to major social media platforms, requesting their immediate blocking. The flagged accounts were allegedly involved in coordinated campaigns promoting false narratives and inflammatory content aimed at destabilizing the information ecosystem in Pakistan.

Authorities have also issued advisories to government departments and private sector institutions to strengthen their cybersecurity protocols. The PTA emphasized that countering cyber threats and disinformation requires coordinated vigilance across all sectors, with continuous support from the national cyber response teams. The situation remains fluid, and Pakistani institutions remain on high alert as digital aggression from across the border intensifies.
