Islamabad United began their Pakistan Super League (PSL 10) season with an impressive winning streak, securing five consecutive victories and topping the points table. However, their campaign has recently taken a downturn, with the team suffering four straight losses, including last night’s heavy 109-run defeat against Quetta Gladiators.
Amid this slump, Islamabad United’s stand-in captain Salman Ali Agha shed light on the challenges the team is facing. He explained that the frequent changes in the playing XI are not due to a lack of strategy but rather because several players are dealing with niggles and minor injuries. These fitness issues have forced the team management to rotate players in an effort to manage the squad’s overall health.
Agha emphasized the importance of momentum in T20 cricket, stating,
I’ve been saying the same thing, we’re not making changes. We have niggles and injuries, that’s why we’re giving chances to players. T20 is all about momentum; if you have that, you can win from anywhere.
Regarding his tactical decision to bowl first on a batting-friendly pitch, Salman Ali Agha admitted that Islamabad United generally prefer chasing targets but were outplayed by the Gladiators on this occasion. He also highlighted the absence of key player Shadab Khan, expressing hope that he would be available for their upcoming match.
Currently third in the points table with 10 points from nine matches, Islamabad United face a crucial final league-stage game against Karachi Kings. A win in this match is essential for them to secure a playoff spot and keep their title defense alive.
