In a major step towards normalcy after weeks of heightened tension between Pakistan and India, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has resumed its men’s domestic cricket calendar.
The decision, announced today, comes after a temporary suspension of all domestic activity due to the conflict that briefly brought life in the region to a standstill. Grassroots cricket is now officially back in action, with the Regional Intra-District Challenge Cup and the Inter-District U19 One-Day Tournament resuming across the country.
The move signals the PCB’s intent to maintain cricketing continuity despite the challenging geopolitical backdrop.
The revival of the President’s Trophy Grade II is another key development, with fixtures set to resume on May 14. This tournament, which serves as a critical platform for emerging and semi-professional cricketers aiming to break into higher tiers of competition, had also been put on hold amid national security concerns.
According to the PCB’s revised schedule, the quarter-finals of the President’s Trophy Grade II will take place from May 19 to 21, followed by the semi-finals from May 24 to 26. The tournament will conclude with the final from May 28 to 31.
Resumption of domestic cricket tournaments isn’t the Pakistan Cricket Board’s only priority right now. A resolution to the international fixtures and the postponed Pakistan Super League (PSL) is also expected in a few hours.
As Pakistan navigates a fragile peace in the aftermath of the conflict, the revival of cricket—long considered a unifying force in the country—offers a glimmer of optimism. For the PCB, it’s not just about resuming matches; it’s about restoring normalcy for everyone involved.
