Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam has thrown his support behind two of the franchise’s brightest young talents as future prospects for the Pakistan cricket team.
Asked to name who he believes has the talent to represent Pakistan, Babar Azam picked Abdul Samad and Ali Raza. Speaking on a podcast for Zalmi TV, Babar praised both players while offering his advice for their careers.
“They are our young blood. They are emerging players. Abdul Samad is new; he will have to improve himself for the higher level of cricket. You have to ready yourself for international cricket,” he said.
Babar Azam was all praise for Ali Raza as well.
“He is a special talent who can play international cricket. But he needs time, and gradually he will be ready for international cricket,” Babar Azam added.
Abdul Samad, a promising modern cricketer, has quietly built a reputation for clean hitting and adaptability. Though not a headline-grabber yet, his performances in PSL X have generated buzz as one of the few players who can lead Pakistan cricket into the future. Ali Raza, on the other hand, has already proven his mettle this year.
In his debut PSL season, he has quickly become Zalmi’s most lethal option with the ball and has earned praise from seasoned former cricketers in the process. At just 17 years old, he looks primed for an international run sooner rather than later.
With a focus on long-term development, Zalmi’s leadership has been clear in backing youth—and Babar Azam’s public endorsement of Abdul Samad and Ali Raza signals that the franchise’s pipeline is strong and closely aligned with national aspirations.
