Route of Punjab’s Upcoming Metro Bus Service Extended

The Punjab Transport Department has decided to extend the Gujranwala Metro Bus route from Aimenabad Mor to Gakhar Mandi, with a proposal to further stretch the route up to Kamoke. Officials have been directed to prepare a feasibility report for the Kamoke extension.

The announcement was made by Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar during a recent meeting, held to review the launch preparations of the metro bus service in Gujranwala.

Senior officials, including Transport Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch and Gujranwala Commissioner Naveed Haider Sheerazi, were also present. A total of 1,009 buses will be deployed for both the main and feeder routes.

Minister Bilal Akbar stated that since Gujranwala is a major industrial and commercial hub in Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the project to meet the growing transportation needs of the city’s population.

Four depots will be established along GT Road for bus parking, and their sites have already been selected. Authorities are also considering building underground bus stations and widening the GT Road where needed. Construction of flyovers along the route is also being reviewed.

Transport Secretary Baloch noted that CM Maryam Nawaz has instructed that feeder buses be operated between Lahore and Gujranwala. The project is expected to be completed within a year.
