The Lahore High Court has ordered the installation of water recycling plants at service stations across Punjab to combat environmental pollution. The directive was issued by Justice Shahid Karim while hearing petitions related to smog control.
The court instructed all deputy commissioners in the province to ensure immediate implementation of the order. During the hearing, a report was submitted regarding the restoration of a water treatment plant in Kasur.
Justice Karim expressed serious concern over the plant’s closure, stating it has led to a rise in diseases among children and adults in the area due to contaminated water. He emphasized that the facility must be restored to ensure clean water in the region.
The court was also informed that the Central Business District (CBD) has constructed a water tank to store rainwater, which will now be used for road cleaning and watering plants. Justice Karim appreciated the initiative.
Meanwhile, the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has launched operations to prevent crop residue burning along the motorway. Offenders are being fined, the court was told.
The court has sought further reports from relevant departments and adjourned the hearing until next Friday.
