Pakistani mountaineers are on another level. After Sirbaz Khan and Naila Kiani, another climber has made historic by conquering the legendary Mount Everest. Saad bin Munawar has made history by becoming the first Pakistani to reach the summit of Mount Everest from its northern face, according to his expedition organizers. The 8,848-meter peak, the tallest in the world, was conquered by Munawar as part of a nine-member team during the Everest North Expedition organized by Imagine Nepal.
Unlike the more commonly used route from Nepal, the northern approach to Everest begins in Tibet. Munawar’s achievement marks the first time a Pakistani climber has reached the summit from this challenging side.
The expedition team included climbers Justin Moore Walker, Dawa Gyalje Sherpa, Ang Mingma Sherpa, Sonam Tashi Sherpa, Ngima Dorjee Sherpa, Lakpa Tenzing Sherpa, Dawa Kami Sherpa, and Thupten Topchen Sherpa.
Saad Munawar, a well-known adventurer, mountaineer, and author, has inspired many in Pakistan’s adventure community. He previously became the first Pakistani to summit Mt. Aconcagua, the highest peak outside Asia, according to the Alpine Club of Pakistan.
The Alpine Club praised Munawar’s accomplishment, calling it a proud milestone for Pakistan’s mountaineering community and highlighting his ongoing influence on new generations of climbers.
In related news, Pakistani mountaineer Naila Kiani recently scaled Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest peak, becoming the first Pakistani woman to summit 12 of the world’s 14 peaks above 8,000 meters. Kiani is now close to joining a select group of only 17 women worldwide who have climbed all 14 eight-thousanders.
