Governor Sindh Takes Governor House Keys With Him Locking Everyone Out

Acting Governor of Sindh, Awais Qadir Shah, announced plans to take legal action against Governor Kamran Tessori for allegedly taking the keys to the Governor’s House offices upon leaving office.

Awais Shah reported that a high-level security meeting regarding Muharram was disrupted when staff informed him that the keys were missing and had reportedly been taken by Tessori. He emphasized that the Governor’s House is a constitutional office, not a personal space, and criticized Tessori’s actions as unbecoming of someone in a constitutional position.

Shah expressed his disappointment and noted that senior police officials had already arrived at the Governor House, with the federal interior minister en route from Islamabad to attend the meeting. He warned that if the meeting could not proceed due to this issue, he would escalate the matter to court.

The acting governor further alleged that Tessori had previously taken the office keys abroad during his tenure, questioning the message such behavior sends about those in constitutional roles.

In response to the situation, the Sindh High Court (SHC) directed relevant officials to grant Awais Qadir Shah access to the Governor House offices. The court instructed the principal secretary to ensure the acting governor’s access to both residential and other offices at the Governor’s House.

In a rebuttal, Kamran Tessori’s assistant stated that Awais Qadir Shah is mistaken and denied the allegations against Tessori. They claimed that the Inspector General of Sindh, the Deputy Inspector General of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and special branch officers were present in the conference room, and that the Governor’s Office was fully prepared for the acting governor. They also noted that if the office was required, Awais Qadir Shah should have notified them 24 hours in advance to ensure proper arrangements.
