The Punjab Traffic Police has intensified enforcement of traffic laws this month, issuing fines worth over Rs. 120 million to more than 60,000 individuals for not wearing helmets or seat belts.
According to a spokesperson, the campaign reflects Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision that “observing traffic laws is everyone’s responsibility.” The focus, they said, is on protecting lives—not simply issuing tickets.
In June alone, over 60,000 fines were issued across Punjab to motorcyclists for riding without helmets. In Lahore, such violations resulted in fines totaling over Rs. 15 million.
Additionally, more than 14,600 motorists were penalized for not wearing seat belts while driving.
Additional IG Traffic Mirza Farhan Baig clarified that the intent behind enforcing these safety measures is not revenue collection, but rather the preservation of lives. He stressed that all passengers in a vehicle must use seat belts and follow basic safety rules.
The Punjab Traffic Police confirmed that operations will continue across the province, with stricter actions being taken to ensure road safety and greater compliance with traffic regulations.
